A Delta Friend "MA FARIES has left us
We've certainly had our share of sad news lately, and I guess that all is a sign of the similar stage in life that most of us share. I received word this morning that Eldon's dear mom Alice passed away yesterday in Bermuda.  For those of us who had the privilege of getting to know "Ma," this news hits us is as if we have lost a parent of our own.  Any mourning on our part, though, is purely selfish for the loss of such a dear treasure from our physical midst.  For those of us who know there is a merciful God whose masterful plan and infinite wisdom brought us to know "Ma" and "Pa" and Eldon and his beautiful Christian family in the first place, then we are comforted in truly knowing Alice Faries basks this very moment in His heavenly protective embrace, forevermore. Ma had been in failing health for the past several years, suffering a stroke which left her largely immobile.  That confinement was certainly something that Ma could never have become accustomed to, or accept.  Her station in life was in service to others.  The Faries family listed their home with the Bermuda Tourist Board as a place of refuge for countless stranded travelers who arrived on the island to be told by the desk clerk that the hotel was "full" and their reservations were for the "next night."  Wow what a fortunate blessing was in store if these seemingly hapless travelers were ushered instead to the Faries residence for that first night's lodging.  Or how about Ma scurrying around her beloved kitchen cooking breakfast and baking egg bread for another one of Eldon's many Delta families who he invited to Poinciana Rest cause "You know, Ma and Pa will be mad if you come to the island and don't stay with them."  Whatever path you were afforded that led you to come into contact with Ma and Pa, one thing was for certain.....you did not leave their presence the same person you were before that blessed experience. Ma's funeral will be at her beloved chapel in Paget Parrish.  There is no stadium on the island (let alone this small community church) that could possibly hold the amount of friends and acquaintances who will show up to celebrate the extraordinary life of this wonderful woman.....and I am certain most there also call her "Ma."  In lieu of flowers, Ma wrote out that she wanted to raise enough money to install an elevator in the chapel for those with disabilities who found it difficult to get up the many steps leading to the sanctuary.  If you would like to send a donation to help build "Ma's Elevator," you may send it to Paget Gospel Chapel, PO Box 123, Paget, Bermuda, in memory of Alice Faries. Our collective prayers and heartfelt thoughts are with Eldon and his dear family for this time of personal loss.  Hopefully, the family will draw comfort in knowing those of us even on the fringe of their lives care so very much for this beautiful Christian family who has had such a profound spiritual effect on so many.  We would also ask your prayers for Eldon's sister Elizabeth's husband Neville who has been courageously fighting cancer and is currently being cared for in a hospital in Boston.  If anyone has the contact information for Joe and Lucile Milewski, I know that they were very close to Eldon's family and would also want to know of this sad news. Thank you, dear friends.  We celebrate, and are so very thankful for, our precious relationship with you all over these many years. Warmest regards, Dan DoggendorfContinental AirlinesState & Civic AffairsNewark Liberty Int'l AirportCell 973-801-9803
